IMO CARES is in the early stages of developing a proposal for Phase II of the Project, which will aim to support developing regions, particularly LDCs and SIDS, in reducing GHG emissions from shipping. It is anticipated that the main focus will be on identifying country needs, technology solutions, and linking key stakeholders from global north and south.
Phase II of IMO CARES aims to build on the successes of its predecessor by expanding its scope and impact. Key activities in this phase may include:
- CARES Connects: A series of workshops and roundtables designed to facilitate dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders, including technology providers, donors, representatives from developing countries and other maritime stakeholders
- Global Challenge II: An initiative focused on identifying specific challenges faced by developing countries and identifying technologies to address these issues.
- Enhanced Reporting: Continued production of detailed reports on maritime technology, with an emphasis on addressing the unique needs of SIDS and LDCs to drive effective decarbonization strategies.
Through these efforts, Phase II will seek to mobilise resources and raise awareness for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime sector and supporting developing regions.
